Beginners Candlemaking Tips - Basic
Tip #1 Keep a bucket or pitcher of cold water nearby, to refill double boiler or dip your hand into in case of accidents Tip #2 Always use a double-boiler. Wax doesn't boil when it's hot. The double-boiler will assure that you can never heat your wax to burning. Tip #3 Keep a fire-extinguisher handy. Tip #4 Never leave melting wax unattended. Tip #5 Test your colour by pouring an inch (2.5 cm) of wax into a small paper cup. Set in the freezer to harden quickly. The hardened wax will be the colour of your finished candle. Tip #6 Do not put candles into the freezer to harden, this will create cracks in your candle and ruin the finish. Place candles in refrigerator for up to one hour if you are impatient, otherwise let candles cool overnight.
